Jose Montalva is an academic at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the East Central University Oklahoma teaching General Biology, Zoology, Earth Science, GIS, World Regional Geography and Human Geography . His lines of research are the biology of invasions, bee biogeography, citizen science and ethnoecology. He has been a researcher responsible for the “Salvemos Nuestro Abejorro” project and has participated in the native bee inventories of the Chagual Botanical Garden, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden and The Nature Conservancy's Oka' Yanahali and Pontotoc Blue Ridge Reserves. Since 2011 he has been part of the members of the Species Survival Commission (SSC), bumblebee specialists, managed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
