John trained as an ecologist, but is also interested in how ecology fits into a broader perspective. He has over 15 years of experience in the sustainable management of diverse landscape types, with a particular focus on agricultural ecosystems. After graduating from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with his doctorate (2010), he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at UNL (2010-2012) before starting a faculty position at Furman University in Greenville, SC (2013 – present). At Furman he teaches classes in conservation biology, landscape ecology, writing, and statistics.
